Dubai: Dubai Police’s auctions committee held an auction for lost items from the lost and found sections of Dubai Airports Security and Dubai Criminal Investigation Department.

The auction took place at Dubai Police Officers Club.

Items on auction included mobile phones, cameras, laptops, watches, tablets and accessories. The items are auctioned only if no one claims them within three months, which is in accordance with the law.

Lt Col Abdullah Saif Al Muhairi, head of the auction’s committee, said the committee receives the items intended for auction from the departments or police stations, and creates an inventory. They also evaluate the items and prepare them for the auction.

The committee then advertises the items on Dubai Police’s social networking pages.

According to the Dubai Police website, people wanting to bid for the items must be registered with Dubai Police and have a trader registration number.

When attending a Dubai Police auction, the person should carry a photo ID and pay a refundable deposit fee of Dh1,000, in addition to a non-refundable admission fee of Dh100.

If the person wins a bid, he has to pay the full amount in cash or electronically and take possession of the material within five working days or at the discretion of the Auction Committee, the website said.

Lost items are available for viewing on the Dubai Police website, so people can claim any of their misplaced items.

The auctions are advertised two days before they take place.
