Dubai: Dubai Police distributed 106 Mir Ramadan cards (food coupons), in cooperation with Beit Al Khair Society, to recovering drug addicts.

The cards, each worth Dh500, were distributed to help recovering addicts who have financial problems. Card-holders can buy food from any Carrefour branch.

Colonel Eid Thani Hareb, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department at Dubai Police, said this kind of humanitarian initiative help recovering addicts by alleviating financial pressure and providing them with nutritional needs on their way to recovery.

He said that financial burdens in general can trigger a relapse for recovering addicts.

Col Hareb added that the department’s role is not only to arrest people involved in drug-related crimes, but also help recovering drug addicts not to relapse.

This is the fifth year that the two entities are cooperating to provide recovering addicts with the food coupons.
