Dubai: Dubai Municipality has begun implementing a new Dh96 million market project for selling hardware and building materials.

The Hardware and Building Materials Market, which will be located in Al Warsan 3, will cover an area of 11 hectares and built on an area of 459,000 square metres.

The announcement was made by Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, who said the new sustainable market will serve as a shopping centre with 71 shops and stores offering all types of hardware and building materials, including 53 showrooms that will each include a storage room.

“This project is in line with the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to preserve local resources and build a green economy. It also comes as part of Dubai Government’s continuous efforts in setting up market projects in the city and making them available to residents and visitors which, in turn, adds to the economic growth of the city,” Lootah said.

Revealing more details about the market, which is expected to be completed in the first half of 2016, he said that the municipality will implement the best standards when implementing the project and will use four solar energy units, each to be equipped with 34 solar cells.

The market will have parking for visitors and trucks and an area for loading and unloading the trucks.
