Dubai: The world’s biggest peace dove made of 1.2 million buttons in the colours of the UAE flag was completed in Dubai and promptly made its way into the Guinness World Records. The project seeks to highlight the UAE’s stature as a peace-loving country.

The 19x19 metre installation will be unveiled at the Burj Khalifa complex on March 10 in a ceremony to be hosted by the organising committee of the region’s first-ever Peace and Sport Middle East Forum, to be held from April 23-24 in Dubai.

The work is sponsored by Emaar Properties and is spearheaded by Iraqi extreme sportsman Captain Fareed Lafta, 33, a goodwill ambassador and peace campaigner who roped in Dubai school children to complete the project over seven days from March 2.

The ceremony on March 10 will see the organising committee of the Peace and Sport Middle East Forum receiving an official certificate from Guinness World Records.

In April 2012, the Dubai Sports Council and ‘Peace and Sport, l’Organisation pour la Paix par le Sport’ formed a strategic alliance to make sport a driving force for development, education, social cohesion and peace in the entire Middle East region.
