Dubai: The General Secretariat of the Dubai Executive Council held, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office in Dubai, a meeting with the consular missions and international organisations accredited to the UAE, to orient them about Dubai Plan 2021, on the future of the emirate of Dubai.

The Dubai Plan 2021 enjoys support from the higher leadership of the emirate, given its global content of urban development and best world practices. This was stressed in the welcoming speech delivered by Abdullah Al Shaibani, Secretary-General of the Dubai Executive Council. He underlined the importance of participation of all societal stakeholders, citizens or expatriates, to establish Dubai as a role model cosmopolitan city.

He referred to the endeavours of Dubai Plan 2021 to promote Dubai and the UAE at the regional and international level through consolidation of relations with partners and competent authorities about the developments in the emirate.

Al Shaibani commended the role played by various communities and business circles in the development of the emirate over the last decades, and the need for continuation of these partnerships to achieve the aspirations of Dubai.

He briefed the audience about the development of Dubai Plan 2021 that kicked off from the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015, launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in February 2007, adding that the previous plan was based on themes of economic and social development, infrastructure, land and environment, security, justice and government excellence.

The Dubai Strategic Plan 2015 specified ambitious long-term targets focusing on the key sectors and strategic priorities that summarise the whole emirate’s march towards the future.

But as Dubai Strategic Plan 2015 nears its end, Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, ordered the General Secretariat of the Executive Council to commence the development of the Dubai Plan 2021, which aims to promote the emirate as an active global centre to become one of the world’s best cities.

Dubai Plan 2021 describes the future of Dubai through holistic and complementary perspectives, starting with the people and the society who have always been, and always will be, the bedrock of the city. This aspect describes the characteristics that Dubai’s people need to have to deliver on the city’s aspirations in all areas, and examines the society needed to support and empower these individuals in achieving their goals.
