Dubai: Sharing photos or videos of accident sites and victims through social media could get you into trouble, the UAE Ministry of Interior (MoI) has warned.

Such images are considered to be irresponsible and disrespectful to the victims, and is against UAE policy, the MoI announced in a statement sent on Monday.

“The publication of such images is unacceptable due to the psychological trauma it could present to the victims’ family members. It violates UAE traditions and Islamic values,” the statement read.

The warning was issued after images of an accident that occurred an accident in Ajman on Sunday, in which a vehicle crashed into a restaurant killing two people, have been shared many times over social media in the country.

Major Fawaz Ali Abdullah, director of the Security Media Department at the MoI, said that sharing such images is a punishable offence, and violates the sanctity of the dead and the privacy of the victims.

The statement recorded the officer’s surprise at people who filmed the incident and its aftermath. Police authorities work hard to quickly investigate and reveal details of such incidents, he said.
