Abu Dhabi: Dozens of parks across the capital’s mainland area are currently being refurbished as part of a Dh127 outlay oh infrastructure development by the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City.

In a statement sent today (March 8), the municipality announced that the investment is also being used to develop irrigation networks in the south of the mainland.

Among the park restoration projects are four facilities in Al Shamkha, as well as a new park for residents of Al Adlah. The parks will be fitted with multiple sports courts, children’s playgrounds, barbecue areas and seats for relaxation.

A 38,000 square metre park in Al Khatam area was also opened in February 2016.

Meanwhile, an irrigation system, including seven associated reservoirs and seven pumping stations, has been fully set up in the stretch from Al Faya to Al Khatam area along the Abu Dhabi-Al Ain highway. The system has a total capacity of 5.5 million gallons, and old irrigation reservoirs and pumps along the path were also demolished to make room for it. The project was completed at a cost of about Dh73 million.

As reported by Gulf News earlier this week, the municipality has been working to refurbish and develop the infrastructure along its mainland areas, which include Khalifa City, Mohammad Bin Zayed City, Shakhboot City, Al Falah, Al Reef, Al Raha, Al Shamkha, Bani Yas and other suburbs. On Monday it inaugurated a 19,000 square metre park in Mohammad Bin Zayed City. In addition, officials announced that a further Dh470 million has also been set aside for infrastructure projects in the southern areas of the mainland, including construction of parks, internal roads and drainage and irrigation networks.
