Dubai: The UAE’s ability to identify creativity and innovation is fostering economic and social growth and helping shape Emirati talent, Shaikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, said on Thursday.

Shaikh Nahyan was speaking at the fourth UAE Ideas Conference and Award organised by Dubai Quality Group (DQG) to honour Emirati inventors.

He told delegates that “innovation and creativity are the key pillars to improve excellence and achieve a lasting development, and the UAE is a place where everyone agrees and encourages this culture of creativity”.

After inaugurating the conference, Shaikh Nahyan said: “Investment in innovation is a successful investment by all standards, as it is key in strengthening the competitive position of the country in the world and providing new job opportunities for citizens. Creativity must always be, an essential part in the life of every one of us.”

He praised the efforts of DQG in encouraging organisations to invest in Emirati human resources and provide an ideal work environment that will stimulate creativity.

The award included 10 categories and received the highest number of applicants this year, according to Feryal Tawakul, Chair of Ideas Arabia Subgroup of DQG.

“Ten entities were awarded today for their innovation in either promoting, for example, Arabic language, national Identity, or environmental work, just to name a few,” she said.

“The competition was open to all Emiratis and is aimed at encouraging this culture of innovation by showing the works of inventors who have made the country proud and giving others the confidence to follow their footsteps,” she said.

During the event, Shaikh Nayhan also announced that the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development has already adopted a number of innovations in the fields of youth and culture, which are all aimed at social and economic welfare.
