Dubai: An international conference supporting efforts to develop human resources in the UAE and integrate inclusive employment will be held next month, officials announced.

Dubai’s Community Development Authority (CDA) on Wednesday announced the details of the inaugural International Conference for Inclusive Employment and Occupational Learning.

The conference that will be held on December 10 and 11 will include a series of lectures, discussions and workshops that seek to bring together prominent academics and experts in professional training for people of determination, and to introduce key international research and best practices in this field in keeping with the Dubai Strategy for People of Determination 2020.

Director-general of CDA Ahmad Abdul Karim Julfar said adhering to best international practices and tailoring them to the UAE’s needs would help safeguard the rights and dignity of people of determination while at the same time utilising their potential and employing it in the sustainable development of the UAE.

The CDA will partner with the Qualifications House UK Group and the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation for the conference as part of the authority’s strategy to partner with the private sector to improve community services for all sectors of society.

“Investing in human capital is a cornerstone of the authority’s new strategy. This includes, of course, people of determination. The CDA is expediting its plans to create professional training programmes to fully integrate this segment with the wider community. These programmes seek to equip people of determination with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel,” Julfar said.

Julfar also said the CDA is continuously working to implement programmes, organise events and launch initiatives that remove all obstacles preventing people of determination from actively participating in the labour market, aside from programmes that combat stereotypes surrounding this segment.

Jamal Bin Huwaireb, CEO of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, said the conference will help individuals hone their skills and reach their full potential to develop knowledge-centric societies.

The conference will be the first in the region to highlight the importance of academic research in solving problems that communities face, Prof Hesham Al Saghbini, CEO of Qualifications House UK Group, said. More than 50 researchers will publish their findings mainly focusing on creating a disability friendly workplace, which is a crucial part for becoming a “Disability Friendly city” in 2020, in the conference.
