Abu Dhabi: Commemoration Day, observed on Monday, is a symbol of martyrs’ sacrifices, heroism, loyalty and nationalism, Dr Amal Al Qubaisi, the Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), said on Monday.

Today, the UAE honours the sacrifices of the country’s fallen soldiers, and tomorrow the UAE will celebrate the unity of this country, she said during the official ceremony held adjacent to the Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque, where the martyr’s memorial will be built.

Dr Amal hailed the sacrifices of the UAE soldiers and expressed her appreciation of their families. “These soldiers will always remain in our hearts and prayers. Their sacrifices will never go in vain. I would also like to thank their families for raising them this way. They have instilled in them a sense of loyalty as well as encouraged them to remain true to their countries. Their names will go down in the history of the UAE, which will always talk about them and their sacrifices in years to come.”

“Today, we are full of pride and honour to commemorate these soldiers. November 30 is a day that will be dedicated to these brave souls every year,” she added.

She spoke of the bonds of coherence and unity that exist between the public and the leaders, who stood hand in hand with the families of the martyrs along every step of the way, she said. “November 30 is a fundamental milestone in the history of the UAE, in every sense of the word. It is the martyrs’ day, which the whole country is celebrating for the very first time. It is a day that reflects the UAE leaders’ recognition of the soldiers of this country, who laid down their lives.”

“It is also a day that has opened a new page in the history of the UAE, which pinpoints the martyrs’ acts of bravery and courage ... these martyrs are the nation’s source of pride.”

Also referring to the day as one that symbolises heroism, loyalty and nationalism, Dr Amal voiced her gratitude to the UAE leaders and President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan for declaring November 30 as Commemoration Day and ensuring that the martyrs’ families are honoured in the greatest way possible.

Meanwhile, the UAE martyrs’ acts of gallantry are a testament to keeping alive the legacy of UAE’s founding father, Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, added Dr Amal.

“Our founding father has always stressed the importance of unity and embedded that in whatever he did. Our heroes of today are a testimony that his legacy and spirit of the union will never fade away.”

“Today, we celebrate the country’s martyrs’ day, a day that highlights the sacrifices of the martyrs, and tomorrow we celebrate the UAE National Day, a day that marks the unity of this country. It is also another occasion for all of us to rejoice and look forward to future crowning achievements.”

The UAE Armed Forces have claimed big victories and have also come a long way, Dr Amal said, praising their efforts in striving to restore the legitimate Yemen government and referred to them as the definition of the country’s strength and unity.

“So let’s all proudly raise the nation’s flag during our happy times and during our soldiers’ martyrdom,” she added.
