Abu Dhabi: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Monday said Commemoration Day is a national day in which history immortalises the nation’s heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country.
In a televised speech, Shaikh Mohammad said: “Today is a day in which we recognise the sacrifice of martyrs. Their sacrifice is priceless, for giving one’s own life is the ultimate sacrifice for one’s nation. The decision of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to mark this day was that of a leader who fully understands his citizens’ feelings and gives them renewed hope and optimism.”
Shaikh Mohammad said Commemoration Day may appear as a symbolic gesture, but what it really stands for is the deep significance of loyalty, recognition and pride.
“It is true that Commemoration Day is symbolic, but at the same time it also represents a national, social and moral dimension in which values of devotion, sacrifice and courage are manifested. The memory of Emirati martyrs will remain forever engraved in our hearts, and leaves its mark on our both our lives and march,” said Shaikh Mohammad.
Shaikh Mohammad added that since the UAE was founded, Emiratis have given their lives for the nation’s glory and to protect its achievements.
“Today, Emiratis are immortalising the memory of our heroes with pride, because the martyrs are a source of pride and inspiration for generations to come. On this day, we are reminded of the honourable stand of our courageous heroes and their venerable deeds. We are also reminded of the sacrifices of those before them, who have instilled in Emiratis the values of courage, sacrifice and loyalty to the nation,” said Shaikh Mohammad.
Shaikh Mohammad indicated that the martyrs’ families’ values of pride and loyalty are limitless when it comes to their love for the nation. He saluted the martyrs’ mothers, fathers, wives and citizens who have given lessons in patriotism and loyalty, and strengthened the spirit of nationalism. “I saw in their eyes pride in the UAE, and in their hearts an abundance of love and loyalty for the nation.”
