Dubai: A martyr’s daughter will recite a poem as part of Dubai Police’s Martyrs Day event.

Dubai Police’s Human Rights Department will commemorate the martyrs’ sacrifices on Sunday (November 29) at the Dubai Officer’s Club.

Major General Dr Abdul Quddus Abdul Razzaq Al Obaidli, Director of the General Department of Quality Management at Dubai Police, said, “The day will celebrate the martyrs’ sacrifices and honour their families and show their families that we are all here for them.”

The UAE government has created future plans and projects for martyrs’ families, as well as provided them with any needed support, he said.

“We as a force want to do our part, too, and teach the future generations about the army and the sacrifices the martyrs made,” he said.

The event is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, and will include speeches by Dubai Police officials as well as officials from the armed forces and an operetta titled Martyrs Day by celebrities, schoolchildren and traditional bands.

The daughter of Waleed Al Danhani — one of the UAE’s martyrs — will recite a poem in honour of the martyrs.

Brigadier Dr Mohammad Al Murr, director of the Human Trafficking Department at Dubai Police, said there will also be three talks that focus on martyrs; one by the Yemeni Minister of Human Rights and one by Brigadier Musallam Al Rashidi, Commander of the Marib liberation force, about the sacrifices the brave Emirati soldier made and how they helped restore legitimacy in Yemen. There will also be a religious talk about the value of martyrdom in Islam.

A short video about the UAE martyrs will also be shown, and a gallery on the armed forces and the martyrs will run alongside the event.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the event, Al Murr said.
