Abu Dhabi: As part of the Charity Doctors Initiative, hundreds of children and elderly patients have received free medication in Ajman by an elite group of Emirati doctors through makeshift hospitals and clinics.

The campaign, a joint voluntary initiative by Zayed Giving Initiative, Dar Al Ber society and Sharjah Charity International and Saudi-German Hospital, aims to early detect chronic heart diseases and heighten public awareness on the best methods of treatment and protection.

Dr Reem Othman, Humanitarian Work Ambassador at the Zayed Giving Initiative, said they are keen on implementing social initiatives to cut the spread of heart diseases though early detection programmes, treating root causes and changing lifestyle.

Othman said that community medical convoys have been launched in the UAE by Zayed Giving Initiative after their resounding success in Egypt, Morocco, Sudan, Bosnia, Haiti, Kenya, Eritrea, India, Pakistan, Syria, Jordan, Somalia and Lebanon. She said more than 3.5 million children and elderly patients were treated and more than 10,000 heart surgeries were carried out in the makeshift hospitals and clinics in various countries of the world.

Emirati heart surgeon Dr Adel Al Shamri, Chief Executive Officer of the Zayed Giving Initiative, said: “The UAE medical convoys are overseen by an elite group of doctors and consultants and include mobile clinics which are equipped with the latest medical devices and equipment. The convoys’ schedule comprised various field visits across the UAE so as to provide diagnostic, therapeutic and educational services to the patients.”

Al Shamri praised the efforts being made by Ajman Executive Council, which helped voluntary doctors to provide best services to all segments of Ajman community.
