Abu Dhabi: Police here detained a motorist and seized his car for driving at 187 km/h which led to the car’s rear windscreen being flung from the vehicle.
The police accused the motorist for driving dangerously and putting other road users' lives in danger.
The image of the rear windscreen flying off was captured by the "Sniper" speed radar of the Abu Dhabi Police.
The motorist was driving on Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Road in Abu Dhabi where he crossed the permitted speed limit and was driving at 187 km/h at 5pm on August 15, 2017.
Lieutenant Colonel Dr Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of the external roads traffic department at the Abu Dhabi Police Directorate, said the image of rear windscreen flying off was captured by a radar.
After investigation, it was revealed that the motorist replaced the windscreen and it wasn’t fitted properly, which caused it to fly off, he said.
The police urged motorists to make sure that all parts of the vehicle are in good condition and safe to drive for their safety and safety of others.
The police asked motorists to report any such road traffic incidents and overspeeding so that the police can take appropriate legal action against the violators who overspeed and put others lives in danger on the roads.
'SNIPER'
As many as 300 such snipers, or mobile radars, had been deployed on the capital's streets.
Snipers are not so easy to spot as traffic police patrols use unmarked cars to help catch speed violators, said police.
