Dubai: Burst pipe? Power fluctuations? Don’t let these issues hassle you. With your smartphone, get Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (Dewa) attention within seconds.

Now, complaining about service disruptions is as easy as clicking a picture, filling out a brief online form and sending it to Dewa through Dewa’s smartphone app. There’s no need to make calls or send an email.

Dewa is encouraging its consumers to be proactive and report any issues they face to help them deliver better services.

“You are welcome to share your comments using the Inform Us service in #DEWA smart app to help us improve our services. #InformUsDEWA,” read a tweet on Dewa’s official Twitter page.

To use this service, anyone with a smartphone may download the Dewa app from the app store. Once in, go to the camera icon and choose the “Inform Us” icon.

Once there, you’ll be asked to take a picture of the problem. A selection will pop up for you to choose the type of problem you’re facing. Choose from: “electricity fluctuation, low pressure of water, smelly/muddy water, broken water pipe, no power, no water, other”.

After that, you’ll be asked to fill in your Dewa contract account number, your name, mobile number and email.

The app will automatically configure the location of the problem.

Dewa said all complaints sent to their office through their app reaches them quickly.

“Communicate with us in seconds! Send a photo of the issue you’re facing through #DEWA’s smart app. #InformUsDEWA,” another Dewa tweet read.

Dewa’s response time, however, concerning deploying a team to the location of the service interruption is unclear. No official comment was available at the time of going to press.

The app has been downloaded more than 50,000 times for Android users since its launch last year.
