Dubai: Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, on Wednesday honoured the holders of professorships and PhDs as part of the Rashid Award for Scientific Excellence at the Cultural and Scientific Association in Dubai.
He also honoured the Mohammad Bin Rashid Space Centre as the Scientific Personality of the Year for its contributions to driving scientific advancement forward in the country.
Ali Obaid Al Hamili, deputy chairman of the association, gave a speech in which he highlighted the importance of reading, which is given great attention by the UAE’s wise leadership that recently reflected by declaring 2016 the Year of Reading by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The association launched the Shaikh Rashid award in 1988 when 88 outstanding academic achievers, including holders of PhD and Master’s degrees and top university graduates and high school students.
Over the past 28 years, the number of the honoured increased several times.
