Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC) yesterday (Sunday) approved 40 development projects that will stretch over an area of seven million square metres.

The council also approved masterplans, raising the percentage of approved development projects to 3 per cent compared with the same period of 2015.

Seventeen projects and four masterplans will be implemented on Abu Dhabi islands and 12 projects and a master plan will be carried out in Abu Dhabi mainland. The council approved four projects and masterplans to be executed in Al Ain city and another two projects for the Eastern Region.

The council endorsed expansion works on Mayan residential project, which is located near Yas Links Golf Course, with gross floor area of 69,500 sq m. The new project, which will include five state-of-the-art buildings overlooking the sea, will provide more than 500 residential units — studios, one-, two- or three-bedrooms.

The council noted that one of Mayan’s buildings has already been approved under the pearl rating system (Estidama) which is affiliated with the council. The five new buildings are seeking to be approved for Estidama’s Pearls Rating System

Covering a gross floor area of nearly 59,600 sq m, the Al Nasim project for housing Emiratis is considered one of the largest projects the council approved during the second quarter of 2016. It is located near Sarooj district and includes 93 villas.

The project, which will provide various facilities such as women-only clubs, malls and mosques, has been designed according to Abu Dhabi Urban Planning standards for sustainable and integrated urban communities.

In the Eastern Region, especially in Madinat Zayed, the council approved development project to construct Al LuLu shopping mall at a total floor area of almost 22,000 sq m. The mall will feature 75 retail shops, including ten restaurants, a coffee shop and other entertainment facilities.

The UPC has noted that the number of buildings approved for Estidama’s Pearls Rating during the second quarter of 2016 is 109.
