Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi City Municipality (ADM) has announced the completion of a number of projects in 2015 ranging from improvements in infrastructure, maintenance and renovation of roads, bridges and tunnels, besides the upgrading of lighting systems.

The municipality said the projects underscore the civic body’s keenness to keep pace with the development drive in Abu Dhabi and provide high quality specifications and modern infrastructure capable of offering services that measure up to the development aspirations of the community and strategic partners while upholding the values of sustainability.

The key residential park projects undertaken by the municipality last year included the construction of children’s playgrounds in the mainland (Phase 1), four residential parks in Mohammad Bin Zayed City, one park in Khalifa City and another in Baniyas City.

The municipality is moving ahead with the School Traffic Safety Project in Abu Dhabi, where the tendering process is under way to complete the project as planned.

The municipality carried out sustainability infrastructure projects, which included lighting maintenance whereby traditional lighting in Yas Island Funfair was retrofitted with LED systems. The municipality also assigned priority to other works such as street lighting, storm water drainage, and sidewalks in Southeast Sector in Khalifa City First Zone 1, Second Zone 1 and Fourth Zone 1.

Incandescent lights in 1,100 lampposts were replaced by LED lights in Yas Island and 2,067 modern lampposts were installed in Khalifa City.

Completed projects in 2015 on the south mainland include: roads and sidewalks maintenance projects in Mohammad Bin Zayed City Zone Z30, roads maintenance in the First Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (Icad 1), in addition to parking and footpath works for Shaikh Zayed Fifth Heritage Festival. The projects also included improving traffic movement and traffic safety in Bani Yas East 8 (municipality’s market), maintenance works of Street 32 in Bani Yas East in accordance with the USDM guide.

The projects also included maintenance work on footpaths in some areas in Al Bahya, and building of car parking spaces and footpaths around mosques in Al Samha East in accordance with the USDM guide. The level of car parking lots was raised in order to avoid the collection of water around the School of the Mother of UAE in Al Shamkha area. Designated road crossings were created around Al Bahya Farms in the Yas area and traffic safety works were also undertaken in Yas Island. New roads and infrastructure works were also completed in Mohammad Bin Zayed City’s Area B Z3, besides pilot projects in addition to internal roads and infrastructure works in Mohammad Bin Zayed City covering various sectors - Phase 2 – Z 36/01 sector.

The municipality completed the maintenance and construction of several key public and residential park projects on Abu Dhabi mainland South and its suburbs including: the completion of Phase 1 and Phase 2 of eight parks in Mohammad Bin Zayed City, the construction of three parks in Al Shamkhah and Al Adlah Park, rehabilitating Al Khatm Park, and extending the irrigation network, reservoirs and pumping stations project from Al Faya to Al Khatm.

The municipality also completed a number of lighting projects that included replacing 123 lighting devices; 79 lighting devices in Bani Yas 32 East Street and 44 lighting devices in Al Maqataa Bridge.

Internal roads and infrastructure projects were also completed in Mohammad Bin Zayed City in various sectors as part of Phase 2 in Z 36/01 Zone, serving 182 housing land plots.

Last year the municipality also began constructing walkways, roads and infrastructure in Mohammad Bin Zayed City B - Z3, the pilot project that serves the internal road network, which is expected to be completed this year.
