Abu Dhabi: New tamper proof police badges with a new emblem were launched Monday. Now the police officers have to carry it with them all the time, and if anybody in the community asks them during investigations, they have to show it.

Officials said on Monday that Abu Dhabi Police are replacing the old police emblem and badges with new one. The new logo – similar to FBI’s folded ID card- contains more security features which officials said are tamper proof and can’t be duplicated.

Maj. Gen. Mohammad Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, said, “The new police badges can’t be duplicated and it’s fool-proof. From now on, each police officer [including non-officers] has to show his official badge with his police ID card so that everybody would know that he represents the Abu Dhabi Police.”

Replying to a question of Gulf News whether police officers have to produce their badges if the community people ask them, Maj Gen Al Rumaithi said, "Yes, they have to show it so that people would know that he represents the Abu Dhabi Police.”

All police badges, uniform and vehicles are to be replaced with the new police logo in upcoming months.

“This is the first step in changing the identity of Abu Dhabi Police and we have started it with the emblem. Today we have distributed the new badges of Abu Dhabi police.

“In fact, we wanted to further localize the entity of Abu Dhabi giving more features that can showcase the local culture and tradition of the Emirate,” he said.

In September, police will announce other new changes pertaining to this and would launch new traffic patrol cars with new logos. In November, the entire identity of Abu Dhabi Police will be replaced with the new uniform, Maj Gen Al Rumaithi said.
