Dubai: The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has prohibited the import of live domestic, wild and ornamental birds, chicks, eggs and poultry from Belgium.

The decision follows a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health about the registration of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Belgium.

According to a statement released by the ministry, this decision was implemented on June 20.

The ministry continues to allow imports of thermally treated poultry products, treated meat and processed egg products, and thermally treated poultry waste from Belgium.

The ministry said that is keen on raising the level of food safety and ensure the provision of safe food to consumers.

It works to implement Federal Law No 10 of 2015 on the safety of food, which applies to all establishments licensed to trade in food or feed, and consignments coming to the country, or passing through its territory.
