Sharjah: Sharjah Municipality on Monday inducted three mobile pumping stations to deal with emergencies caused by floods and heavy rainfall.

Thabit Al Tarifi, Director General of Sharjah Municipality, said the ‘Al Sadd’ pumping stations have the ability to quickly deal with flooding caused by natural disasters and unusual weather conditions.

The US-made stations are manufactured and modified according to the requirements and technical specifications suitable for the municipality.

He said the municipality plans to increase the number of mobile pumping stations in coastal and eastern areas, which have experienced frequent floods during the past years.

Hassan Al Tafaq, Head of the Environment Department at Sharjah Municipality said the pumping station is a modified truck equipped with a quick flow pump so that the truck can be driven directly to areas affected by floods in areas where water level reaches 1.5 metres.

The structure of the truck will not be damaged by water because it is coated with a water-resistant paint.
