Rain expected as temperatures begin to drop in UAE

Dubai: Cooler weather is coming to the UAE as the first official day of autumn falls on Thursday, said the national weather service.

The Autumnal Equinox marks a small gradual change in the weather as nights become cooler and daytime highs begin to drop as the calendar moves later into the year.

A forecaster with the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology told Gulf News on Monday that UAE residents can expect some relief in coming weeks from the sweltering summer temperatures that climbed above 50 Celsius in some parts of the country this year.

“September 21st marks the beginning of the autumn season so temperatures should start to go down,” the forecaster said from Abu Dhabi.

The persistent heat, meanwhile, combined with convective clouds over the eastern region of the UAE led to hail conditions on Sunday, the second hail storm this month.

The forecaster said its was hard to say whether more hail is expected in the forecast.

Rain, meanwhile, is forecast for the UAE on Tuesday but in small and isolated pockets, especially in the eastern mountainous region.

Over the next three days, Al Madam, Dubai-Al Ain Road, Al Ain City and the eastern region of Sharjah emirate are expected to be especially affected by rainfall, with temperatures falling to 23 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius in the mountain and internal areas respectively.

The level of humidity will also drop to five per cent in the mountain areas and 10 per cent in internal areas.

During the day, the NCMS in its daily forecast said that temperatures across the UAE will reach highs of 31-44 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels to reach up to 90 per cent.

The relative humidity will increase during the night and early morning over some coastal and internal areas, with a chance of fog and mist formation.

The sea will be mild in the Arabian Gulf and in the Oman Sea.
