Abu Dhabi: The Federal National Council (FNC) on Sunday held a parliamentary retreat titled “Perception of the Future” to share ideas, visions and suggestions that lead to drawing up FNC’s first strategy for 2015-2019.

The retreat, chaired by Dr Amal Al Qubaisi, Speaker of FNC, aims to enrich in-house dialogue and discussions in a fruitful and constructive manner that strengthens the team spirit among FNC members.

Held at the Sir Bani Yas Island, the first parliamentary consultative meeting, the first-of-its kind in the region, is dedicated to setting FNC’s four-year strategy as a first phase to be followed by comprehensive participation of all relevant bodies.

In her keynote address, Al Qubaisi said, “Our meeting today is a landmark event that brings together an elite group of sincere national leaders who represent the loyal Emirati people and enjoy the trust of the wise leadership.”

The strategy will be in line with the aspirations and ambitions of the UAE leadership, and the directives and recommendations of the meetings with His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The four-year strategy will serve as a roadmap for the parliamentary performance focused on the best international practices in administration and parliamentary work.

The FNC’s retreat reflects the council’s keenness to promote its national role and contribution to the comprehensive and balanced development in a manner that support the UAE’s achievements in all domains as well as its foreign policy.

Al Qubaisi said, “The strategy aims to build a comprehensive integration, constructive cooperation and strong coordination between the legislative and executive authorities. It also aims to promote political participation and achieve a broader community participation and the best channels of communication locally and internationally, so as to achieve sustainable development.”
