Dubai: Dr Rashid Ahmad Bin Fahd, Minister of Environment and Water, was briefed on the activities carried out by the administration team of the desert protection campaign.

The team, led by Aref Al Abbar, head of the campaign and chairman of the Emirates Hobbies Association, briefed Bin Fahd on the campaign’s development since it was launched in 2008. He also highlighted how the campaign was able to reach a wider segment of the population, raising awareness among the public on the importance of preserving the environment and ensuring that it is free of any substances that can cause harm to people or wildlife.

The campaign, which will run l until April 12, will organise activities for youth to occupy their free time gainfully and preserve Arab heritage traditions. The campaign also raises awareness on the humane treatment of desert wildlife and trains desert-goers in preserving the environment, as well as consolidating a culture of environment awareness in order to preserve it for coming generations.

Al Abbar said that the campaign will receive schoolchildren at its main headquarters in Al Aweer from March 29 to April 3, coinciding with the second semester holidays. The campaign will also host government institutions and private bodies that are concerned with enhancing environmental performance and sustainability.
