Dubai: The municipality has taken active measures to educate Emiratis on the concept of green buildings and making their homes environmentally friendly.
A two-day exhibition was launched on Monday by Adullah Raffia, Assistant Director-General of Dubai Municipality, which included seminars, workshops and lectures held under the theme “My Green Home.”
“More efforts are needed to educate people on green building concepts and to spread the awareness on environmental preservation,” said Raffia, while speaking at the event.
“Those who are preparing to build their home will find the whole event as a guide for environmental conservation based on our green vision,” he said.
The Green Building Regulations and Specifications — a set of specifications and guidelines for regulating the criteria of the structure that allows adequacy in the consumption of electricity, water and renewed energy — is part of the green buildings project in Dubai. The regulations are part of Dubai Strategic Plan that has the aim of keeping Dubai a healthy city with a clean and pollution-free environment, and was launched by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) in cooperation with Dubai Municipality. According to municipal officials, the new regulations will make a saving of around Dh10 billion by 2030.
Raffia also pointed out that visitors will be educated on all the regulations required to construct a green building, which includes hiring the appropriate consultants and appointing contractors experienced in the field, as well as the importance on planning, designing, and buying materials and electrification necessary.
A number of government and private companies related to the building sector are participating in the event, including the Mohammad Bin Rashid Housing Establishment and the Shaikh Zayed Housing Programme.
