Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Environment and Water has signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with the authorities of Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman.

The agreements aim to promote strategic partnership with the other emirates and to implement the ministry’s Integrated Waste Management project, which aims to provide a more sustainable and environmentally friendly solution by efficient collection of municipal solid waste in the UAE.

The ministry’s vision is to transfer 75 per cent of municipal solid waste from landfills by 2021.

The memorandums were signed by Abdul Rahim Mohammad Al Hammadi, Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water, Mohammad Saif Al Afkham, director-general of Fujairah Municipality; Ahmad Mohammad Al Hammadi, director-general of Public Works Department in Ras Al Khaimah; Yahya Ebrahim Al Reyaysa, director-general of the Department of Ajman Municipality and Planning.

The new agreements also aim to play a key role in the training and development of citizens and encourage them to contribute to the management of the Integrated Waste Management project after its completion.
