Dubai: A new environmental library has opened to the public at the headquarters of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment in Dubai.

The library opening is in response to the Year of Reading 2016 initiative launched by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and in support of the upcoming World Book Day celebration on April 23.

The initiative is one of the ministry’s several cultural initiatives and projects scheduled to be launched this year to demonstrate its active participation in the ongoing nation-wide efforts to create a reading culture. It also aims to provide the public with easy access to scientific knowledge on the environment, climate change, and other fields.

Books and e-books covering various topics such as the environmental efforts of the ministry, and general information for employees and the public are available. The ministry encourages developing a culture of reading in the UAE among a naturally curious generation to show deep passion for reading and learning in line with the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice- President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Dr Sa’ad Mohammad Al Numairi, the minister’s adviser, said the library was established to help boost more initiatives in the year of reading with an aim to instil a love of reading among the country’s future generations. In addition, education and reading are essential tools to build a highly skilled workforce, one of the top priorities of the UAE leadership. Education is an essential foundation for knowledge.
