Dubai: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) organised a ceremony to recognise the winners and partners of the Ideal Home initiative launched by it to promote environmental sustainability.

An electric car was handed out to a person who optimised their home for a competition by the emirate’s utility body. The first-place winner also received a free Green Charger card valid for one year. Other winners received cash prizes and certificates of appreciation.

Dewa focused on several criteria to narrow down on the winners — including air conditioning temperatures set to 24 degree Celsius, use of solar energy, and water tank cleanliness.

Dewa chief Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer honoured the winners.

“We are committed to achieving sustainability everywhere. Sustainability has become a pillar of development, and an approach followed by the UAE,” Al Tayer said at the ceremony.

To take part in the initiative, home owners had to have a home in certain areas specified by Dewa and have lived in the property for at least one year.

The household head also had to be registered with the MyID system set up by Dubai’s government, which makes it easier to link the data of participants.

The awards ceremony took place at the 18th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (Wetex), held from October 4 to 6.
