Dubai: Dubai will host the 3rd International Conference on Coastal Zone Engineering and Management in the Middle East from November 20 to 23.

The conference will have the theme, “Sustainable Coastal Development: best practices, innovations, challenges and opportunities”.

The conference is organised by Dubai Municipality under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Chairman of Dubai Municipality, at Intercontinental Hotel — Dubai Festival City.

It is being held in collaboration with the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), a global organisation comprising prominent experts and specialists in the field of hydro-environmental research. The IAHR promotes exchange of knowledge by organising events such as conferences, workshops and continuing education courses.

Hussain Nasser Lootah, director-general of Dubai Municipality, said the conference, which is being held in Dubai for the third time, is the largest gathering in the Middle East and North Africa of the experts in the engineering and management of coastal zones and waterways, developers, consultants and contractors as well as government authorities, universities and research centres.

“Given the ambitious pace of development projects in the region, and most particularly in the Gulf, this conference is aimed at bringing together international scientists, engineers and coastal managers to discuss the latest achievements and developments of relevance to regional coastal management and engineering,” said Lootah.

Alya Al Harmoudi, director of the Environment Department and head of the Supreme Organising Committee of the conference, said the Scientific Committee of the Conference has completed evaluation of nearly 250 scientific papers submitted from 35 countries and that 140 of them have been selected for presentation at the conference.

She said the conference will be accompanied by a specialised exhibition and the municipality has extended invitations to prominent local and international bodies involved in the management of coastal areas and environments, and water channels.
