Abu Dhabi: The new Dh3 billion campus of Zayed University in Abu Dhabi will open its doors to students on September 4 for a new academic year.

Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and President of Zayed University, said the new Zayed University campus in Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi, is an important addition to the higher education infrastructure in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the UAE at large.

The new state-of-the-art campus, he added, underlines the commitment of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan; His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Education Council, to upgrade education and build human resources according to the highest international standards adopted by advanced countries.

"The new campus will provide an ideal learning environment through its educational, academic, scientific and research facilities which have been designed and built on precise international specifications," Shaikh Nahyan said during a tour of the new campus last week.

He affirmed that the university offers premier education that prepares graduates to take up leadership roles in the State whether in public or private sector.

Zayed University's new campus will not only be a state-of-the-art academic and research facility designed according to the highest international standards in the building of universities and research centres, but will also reflect a combination of traditional and contemporary architectural and engineering elements, highlighting the national identity and architectural heritage of the UAE.

He added that the campus, with its designs and international standard facilities, will be worthy of having Zayed University's name; a name they feel proud and honoured to have; the name of the founder of the United Arab Emirates, the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who established the university 11 years ago as a beacon of science, knowledge and a bridge between cultures.

State-of-the-art facility

Dr Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice-President of Zayed University, said the 80-hectare campus was developed in partnership with Mubadala Development Company and Abu Dhabi Education Council at a total value of more than Dh3 billion to accommodate up to 6,000 students.

Facilities include three main campuses with 28 buildings, a 1,000-seat convention centre, a sports complex, residential buildings and a children's education centre with child care facilities.

Dr Al Jassim said the new campus would welcome administrators, academia and students on Sunday. Construction of the campus began in 2009 and finished on July 31 this year.
