Dubai: Voters spoke of the qualities of their ideal candidate at the Federal National Council (FNC) voting stations in Dubai on Wednesday.

Rawya Al Katbi voted for a candidate whose agenda revolved around the country’s future goals and the youth’s role in fulfilling these goals.

“To me the ideal candidate is always on the field among the people, listening to their needs and requirements,” she said.

Ameenah Al Ghily, on the other hand, voted for a candidate who will discuss issues related to Emiratis working in the private sector.

“In comparison to Emiratis working in the public sector those of us who work in the private sector have much fewer benefits and rights. I want a candidate who cares about those who are in the private sector and try to help us receive the benefits the public sector receives.”

Alia Mohammad believes the candidate’s academic background and work experience is key.

“The person I voted for has a doctoral degree and a lot of work experience. His agenda revolved around health and housing,” she said.

Hessa Al Ameri voted for someone she knows. “The candidates might say what they have to say to gain votes. I voted for someone I personally know will fulfil what he promised,” she said.

Many officials also visited the polling station in Dubai to cast their vote.

Dubai Police officials came to the polling station along with 150 students from the Dubai Police Academy to cast their vote.

Members of the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities also came to cast their vote.

“The candidates who are going to win are going to have a big responsibility on their shoulder so I hope they take it seriously because they are the voice of the people. The voting process was very smooth and organised and I expect the outcome to be transparent results,” Dr Hamad Bin Al Shaikh Al Shaibani, director-general of the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities, said.
