Sharjah: The University of Sharjah’s (UoS) board of trustees yesterday (Sunday) approved the university’s Dh838 million draft budget for the 2016-2017 academic year.

The approval came during a board meeting chaired by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and President of UoS.

During the meeting held in London, the board approved setting up a language centre, that will comprise an English Language centre, translation department, languages centre, as well as an Arabic Language centre for non-native speakers.

The board also approved new academic programmes, such as masters in environment technology, environmental health, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and bachelor’s programme in software engineering and early childhood education.

Dr Humaid Majoul Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of UoS, briefed the board on a report that details the university’s achievements in the academic year of 2015-2016.

Dr Shaikh Sultan expressed his thanks and gratitude to the board members, and pointed out that the academic development frameworks adopted by UoS allows it to bolsters the university’s capabilities in achieving its objectives.
