Abu Dhabi: The names of 1,500 students and teachers were written onto a replica tree that was put on display at St Joseph’s School on Wednesday, as a way to celebrate its 50th year in the capital.

Opened in 1967, the school is the oldest private school in the capital marking its 50th year. The idea for building a tree replica made from cardboard with the names of all students and teachers came from the school’s art faculty, and saw each student writing and colouring their name onto the leaves of the replica tree.

“This year is our 50th year, and so we made this tree as a symbol of our growth and how we have bloomed over the many years,” said Sister Carmen, the school’s principal.

“Everybody in the school took part in writing their names on the leaves of the tree, including students, teachers, security guards and everyone else employed by the school,” she added.

“This tree also shows that how we are all one, from the students to the teachers. It is a happy occasion for us, and we are so grateful to have been in Abu Dhabi for all these years, and hope for many more successful ones to follow,” she said.
