Sharjah: Experts discussed sustainable construction practices and products during the 12th Middle East Drymix Conference held at University of Sharjah.

The event was held under the patronage of Sharjah Research Academy, with this year’s theme being ‘For the sustainability of construction and building materials.’

Experts from around the world participated in the conference that discussed several issues to improve the construction industry and its sustainability, taking into account local climatic conditions.

Dr Hamid Majul Al Nuaimi, chancellor of the University of Sharjah, said specialists discussed the use of “drymix mortar as compared to current materials used in building and construction, on which billions of dirhams are spent in the country annually. That is in addition to the billions spent on such for maintenance and restoration as confirmed by national statistics. This conference embodies the modern progress and development of the Emirate of Sharjah in particular and in the UAE as a whole”.

Dr Amr Abdul Hameed, director of Sharjah Research Academy, said: “I would like to thank and express gratitude towards the people who worked hard to come up with their research, papers, and studies. Sharing such valuable information will only help in improving the industry and I am glad that Sharjah Research Academy managed to play a role in this gathering.”

Professor Mufid Al Samarai, senior adviser at Sharjah Research Academy and the chairman of Drymix Middle East, observed that the nature of the atmosphere and the climate in the region was taken into account while addressing the sustainability issue. This included humidity and high temperatures, and ways of dealing with such conditions.
