Abu Dhabi: Young people interested in science and technology can now participate in a number of science workshops or visit an interactive display at the capital’s Mushrif Central Park.

The Live Science exhibition, which has been launched by the emirate’s education sector regulator, the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec), in collaboration with Abu Dhabi-based investment company, Mubadala, aims to bring together and inspire tomorrow’s engineers and scientists.

It includes elements from an exhibition designed by aircraft manufacturer, Boeing, that allows youth to ride a simulated space elevator or to design and test their own supersonic fighter jet. There is also an immersive theatre and a variety of air and space craft simulations.

In addition, Abu Dhabi’s human capital developer, the Technology Development Committee (TDC), will also organise workshops on space and robotics, which are normally part of the TDC’s school outreach science programme, ‘Lema’. These will allow children to record and transmit radio broadcasts, design their own robots and learn about the solar system in an inflatable planetarium.

“Our priority is to provide interactive, knowledgeable, fun yet challenging activities for the youth, with particular focus on their creative and critical thinking skills in fields related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Providing children with such interactive educational experiences is part of Abu Dhabi’s plan to prepare students for tomorrow’s knowledge-based UAE economy,” said Dr Mugheer Al Khaili, acting director-general at the Adec.

Humaid Al Shemmari, chief executive officer at Mubadala Aerospace & Engineering Services, said that the Abu Dhabi Government-owned firm is committed to encouraging young talent to explore and pursue careers in aerospace and engineering.

“Live Science [therefore] brings renowned innovations and technologies to the heart of Abu Dhabi in an interactive and engaging setting, and falls directly in line with the UAE’s long-term vision for economic diversification,” he added.

The exhibition will run every day until March 5.
