Abu Dhabi: Potential students who wish to register for homeschooling for the 2016-2017 academic year can now do so online, the emirate of Abu Dhabi’s education sector regulator, the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec), has announced.

In a statement sent today (April 24), Adec said that registrations are also open from today (April 24) for adult education centres.

There are currently 29 adult education centres in Abu Dhabi emirate, and they allow those beyond the recommended age limits for a grade level to study the relevant material and further their education. They follow the UAE Ministry of Education curriculum. Under the Adec’s regulations, this applies to individuals older than nine years for the first school years, those older than 15 years for Grade 7, and students older than 18 years and 20 years for Grades 10 and 12 respectively.

To register, applicants need to visit the centres in their neighbourhood with the relevant documents by May 12.

According to Adec, Emiratis and their children can register for all adult education levels. On the other hand, admission for adult education levels below Grade 7 is allowed only for children of expatriates, first and second-degree relatives of Emiratis and Arab expatriates.

There are also 67 designated centres for homeschooling pupils to sit for semester exams and other assessments. To register for these ministry of education curriculum programmes, applicants should use Adec’s online portal before undertaking any additional procedures at Adec customer service centres. Homeschooling is open to students of all nationalities, including those who are not eligible to attend adult education centres.
