Abu Dhabi: A total of 900 education professionals from 80 countries will gather in the capital this weekend at the Qudwa Forum 2017 to discuss educational trends, including the role of teachers, in supporting and promoting a nation’s growth.

The two-day forum will serve as a platform for educators to share their knowledge and insights on teaching strategies, character education, creativity and innovation, 21st century skills, and professional development.

The forum, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the Emirates Palace, will be held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

“Qudwa 2017 is a global forum that will seek out new ideas and approaches while remaining true to traditional values. We believe this is an ideal platform to bring together teachers from all corners of the world in order to discuss the best practices and shared experiences that will enable future generations to maximise their potential, and ensure a positive impact in their communities,” said Mohammad Khalifa Al Nuaimi, director of education affairs at the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court.

A series of renowned speakers, including several UAE officials, are expected to address forum attendees during 90 scheduled sessions.

Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, is expected to deliver a keynote address on the first day of the forum. Minister of Education Hussain Ebrahim Al Hammadi is also expected to speak, tracing the growth and evolution of the education sector in the country.

Noora Mohammad Al Kaabi, Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs, will also discuss the role of arts and culture education in an increasingly digital global economy, while and Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of State for Tolerance, will highlight the role of teachers in supporting the country’s National Tolerance Programme.

A plenary session on the second day will see the participation of Julia Gillard, chair of the Global Partnership for Education and former prime minister of Australia; Jameela Salem Al Muhairi, UAE Minister of State for Public Education; and Dr Al Al Nuaimi, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (Adek).

Last year, 20 dedicated teachers from across the UAE were honoured for their lifelong efforts towards enhancing education during the one-day Qudwa Forum 2016.

This year’s event will be held in partnership with several local organisations — including the UAE Ministry of Education, Adek, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority of Dubai — and in collaboration with international organisations like the inter-governmental Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development, education non-profit organisation Varkey Foundation, and Teach For All, an education opportunity provider.
