Abu Dhabi: A new online system, ‘Mustaqbali’ (My Future), to help Emirati graduate students find jobs suitable to their skill set was launched by the Abu Dhabi Tawteen Council (ADTC) in partnership with the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), during a ceremony held at the HCT in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

The online programme will give HCT students information and updates on the latest jobs that are available. The programme also lists the skills and requirements that are necessary for the job.

As a result of the new online system, Emirati graduates will have more access to available job openings, as well as up-to-date knowledge on many of the employers and companies that are looking to hire.

Speaking on the Mustaqbali programme, Abdullah Al Humaidan, Abu Tawteen Council Executive Director, said it was important for employers and education institutions to now involve themselves with the system. “This system depends first and foremost on the extent of responsiveness of employers and higher education institutions to joining the system of manpower development. The data becomes more accurate through the cooperation of employers, whether government or semi-government or private, in stating their current and future needs and vacancies, which gives students a clear picture of the required specialisations and gives decision makers a clear idea about the future Emirati workforce.”

Dr Abdul Latif Al Shamsi, Vice-Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology, was positive about the online programme, saying, “The Mustaqbali system reduces the gap between higher education outputs and the future needs of the labour market and higher education inputs. Students get the opportunity to know the required specialisations in the coming years on which they can make informed choices.”

Al Shamsi added that it was important for education programmes to provide the relevant and necessary skills that are needed in the labour market, and that the HCT was the first education institution to launch the online programme.

At least 7,412 HCT students will benefit from the online programme according to Dr Sultan Karmostaji, Director of Abu Dhabi Colleges. He also added that during the first phase of the online programme, Zayed University and Al Ain University for Sciences and Technology will be linked to the programme.

The second phase of the online programme will offer students still studying internship roles and work placements in order for them to gain the needed skills once they finally graduate and enter the labour market.
