ABU DHABI: The Education Affairs Office at the Crown Prince Court of Abu Dhabi launched on Saturday a new “UAE Media Apprenticeship Programme (UAEMAP)” for Emiratis.

The new programme aims to support young Emirati graduates with degrees in traditional and new media specialisations. It will train more than 20 Emiratis over a period of six months to one year.

So far, the Education Affairs Office has collaborated with 15 partners from diverse media organisations to implement the UAEMAP.

The initiative was launched in line with President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s declaration of 2018 as the ‘Year of Zayed’ to empower national cadres with global expertise.

Mohammad Khalifa Al Nuaimi, Director of the Education Affairs Office at the Crown Prince Court of Abu Dhabi, said that his office is delighted to launch this programme that will articulate the late Shaikh Zayed’s vision to build an empowered and enlightened generation of Emiratis. “With global expertise and the will to acquire knowledge, they will occupy their rightful places in driving the economy and advancing scientific and technological know-how.”

The Crown Prince Court’s collaborations with media institutions in the private sector for the programme, will enhance the role of the media in strengthening the status of the UAE regionally and globally, he said.

The selected candidates will also be trained at the leading UAE media organisations to enhance their capabilities.

The Crown Prince’s office said: “UAEMAP is collaborating with leading national and international universities offering media-based specialisations to hand-pick their best graduates who will then join the programme.”

The candidates selected by a specialised committee from the Education Affairs Office, will be provided internships and on-the-job training.

The academic partners of the programme include Abu Dhabi University, Zayed University, UAE University, New York University Abu Dhabi, American University in Dubai, American University of Sharjah, American University in the Emirates in Dubai and Ajman University.

Commenting on the launch of the programme, Dr Sultan Ahmad Al Jaber, Minister of State, Chairman of the National Media Council said: “The Emirates Media Training Programme supports the UAE’s strategic goals and aligns with the leadership’s approaches of foreseeing the future. It also underpins the Emirati media role through empowering Emirati young people and preparing a generation that recognises the importance of media in the sustainable development progress.

We are confident that such a programme will further consolidate our national principles and values and will qualify national professionals who would best project the Emirati message, which is built on moderation and tolerance to the entire world, Al Jaber added.

This programme represents a scientific road map for the development of media in the country and will contribute to providing media sector with qualified national cadres, who will professionally mirror the UAE’s positive image.

We call on public and private sectors to boost their partnerships, enhance training programs for Emiratis and focus on practical fields so as to prepare prominent media figures who would be equipped with knowledge and experience necessary for practicing media activities professionally, he concluded
