Dubai: Education in the country will undergo a facelift with the Ministry of Education adopting a 50-point initiative for the Education Strategy 2010-2020.

Restructuring of secondary education including elective courses and learning pathways for students, doing away with foundation courses in universities, aligning national standards for examinations with international standards and more stringent recruitment policies for teachers are some of the issues that top the ministry's agenda.

Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami, Minister of Education said that the new education strategy has been formulated according to international best practice and in line with the leading education systems around the world which make the interest of the student their highest priority.

"First of all, the new educational strategy aims to encourage students to participate in extra-curricular activities in order to improve personal and leadership skills and their ability to work as part of a team. Secondly, it involves students in the decision-making process when it comes to the school's environment. Thirdly, the strategy aims to ensure equal opportunities for students to obtain helpful career guidance. Finally, the new educational strategy calls for sustained communication between schools and parents," said the minister in a press statement.

The Ministry of Education adopted 50 strategic initiatives within the new educational strategy, through a series of workshops organised by the ministry and attended by a large number of veteran educators and professionals involved in the educational sector.
