The National Science, Technology and Innovation (NSTI) Festival concluded on Monday evening with an awards ceremony, including one for the first UAE Young Scientist Award.

The five-day event was held from February 15 to 19 at Dubai Festival Arena. It was organised by the Ministry of Education and held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The festival was also held during the UAE Innovation Month (February).

On Monday, the award ceremony recognised 24 students for eight projects and three ideas. During the ceremony, Hussain Ebrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education, announced that seven of the winners will have the honour of meeting Shaikh Mohammad at Qasr Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi to explain their projects.

Sultan Bin Bader from Alrefah School received the UAE Young Scientist Award for his ‘Emergency Robot’ that has uses in firefighting, ambulance emergency cases, automatic premises cleaning, filling tires with air, charging mobile phones and much more.

Al Hammadi said, “At the second edition of NSTI Festival we have made significant progress in the level of projects that have been submitted by students. We have started to reap the developments we have made to the education sector and Emirati schools. The student’s capabilities and skills have developed, even the way they have presented their projects, and worked as a team have shown progress. This year we saw them confidently speaking about their projects and it demonstrated a full understanding of the project rather than memorisation of a script.”
