Dubai: Moral Education will be included in school curricula in the 2017-2018 academic year, the Ministry of Education has announced.

The move is in line with the education initiative, which was launched under the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, three months ago.

The initiative was launched by the Crown Prince’s Court in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Abu Dhabi Education Council, and other relevant institutions.

The trial phase of including Moral Education in school curricula will begin in January, and be tried on a sample group of pupils to gauge the opinions of educators, professionals and authorities.

The initiative aims to establish the values of tolerance, respect and loyalty and other ethics in pupils.

The subject will include five key elements: ethics, personal and community development, culture and heritage, civic education, and rights and responsibilities.

Hussain Ebrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education, affirmed the ministry’s full support for this initiative, the first of its kind in the region, because it is expected to bring about a unique change in pupils’ and teachers’ lives and behavioural skills.

He said the ministry, in coordination with the Crown Prince’s Court, has completed all phases of planning to include Moral Education in school curricula.

Jameela Salem Al Muhairi, Minister of State for Public Education, praised the efforts of the joint team consisting of the ministry, Crown Prince’s Court, Knowledge and Human Development Authority, and Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority.

She said the joint team developed the subject on the basis of leading global experiences that promote moral and behavioural concepts, such as tolerance, respect, self-development, sustainability and responsibility.
