Dubai: The third ‘Annual Educational Conference’ held by the Ministry of Education yesterday stressed the importance of supporting schools who did not receive school attestation in order to advance in the new academic year.

The conference which was initiated in 2011 aims to provide a platform for leaders in education to meet with each other and learn about the latest initiatives and strategies launched by the ministry for the year 2013/14.

The focus on this year’s conference was school leadership, new initiatives and smart services that the ministry aims to implement in the new academic year.

The Minister of Education Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami gave the opening address where he emphasised the importance of having all educational bodies on the same page by familiarising them with the ministry’s latest initiatives and strategies.

Jameela Al Muhairi, Director of the Public Schools Guidance and Monitoring Department spoke about the ‘School monitoring plan’ for the academic year 2013/14.

According to last year’s findings Jameela said that 193 public schools were targeted and out of the these schools 61 met the criteria of the ministry and 132 will go on to continue on taking part in the development programme.

As for the monitoring plan for 2013/14 the ministry aims to rehabilitate 20 public schools who did not receive attestation during the new academic year.

The ministry also aims to continue on supporting the schools that were inspected previously as well as increasing the number of schools in the ‘Support and development programme’.

Training inspection teams on the new criteria and standards are also among the objectives for the new academic year.

During the conference the ministry also discussed initiatives that aim to advance education in the country.

“The ministry had made sure to develop programmes and initiatives that aim to raise the level of performance among educators. Among these programmes is the ‘School leadership development programme’ which aims to develop their leadership skills.”

The minister honoured the first batch of educators who took part in the ‘School leadership development programme’ which consisted of 140 teachers, principals and assistants.
