Abu Dhabi: Khalifa University of Science and Technology on Monday signed an agreement to become a collaborative centre with the IAEA.

The signing took place on the sidelines of the IAEA’s International Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Energy, and will see both institutions collaborating in a number of areas related to nuclear energy.

“This agreement is basically a formalisation of activities we have had with the IAEA for many years. Now that we are an official collaborative centre of the IAEA, our programmes are going to expand with a lot more opportunities,” said Dr Tod Laursen, interim president, Khalifa University of Science and Technology.

“Going forward we will offer our students fellowship programmes with extra certifications on offer, IAEA experts will also come and visit our university to disseminate information and education from their side.

“It is important to have a common baseline internationally when it comes to issues like nuclear energy safeguarding, security, and non proliferation issues, people need to understand these areas in a similar way,” he added.
