Dubai: A 13-year old Emirati scientist was all smiles as the University of Manchester honoured him for his impressive list of inventions.

In 2013, Adeeb Al Balushi made local headlines for creating a car seatbelt heart monitor, a cleaning robot and light-weight prosthetic limbs.

He has also invented a fireproof helmet with a camera system to help see in emergencies.

Adeeb’s latest invention included the graphene substance, which involved a special device for elderly people praying in mosques and those with special medical needs.

On Tuesday, Wam reported that the UK university honoured Adeeb and his younger sister Dana, 11, for their scientific achievements in the fields of medical sciences and space sciences.

Dana, 11, was recognised for being the youngest Emirati to experience training at the US-based National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Adeeb and Dana are the first and youngest students to discuss scientific research on full-scale projects at the National Graphene Institute at the University of Manchester, impressing the institute’s management for their considerable research, logic and scientific qualities.

The honouring ceremony was carried out by James Baker, Business Director of the University of Manchester, on behalf of Sir Konstantin Novoselov, a Russian-British physicist who won the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics.

Other participants in the ceremony included Dr Aravind Vijayaraghavan, Research Specialist on Nano Technology at the university, and Paul Fontaine, Chief Designer of Technology Projects..

The brother-sister duo were also received at the UAE Embassy in London, by Ambassador Sulaiman Al Mazroui.

Al Mazrouei expressed his satisfaction at their accomplishments and encouraged them to pursue their scientific interests.
