Abu Dhabi – Schoolchildren in Abu Dhabi are being encouraged to participate in an emirate-wide science exhibition and competition that will be held in 2016.

The Young Scientists and Technology Exhibition will consist of a non-competitive Science Fair for pupils in Grades 1 to 5. Pupils in Grade 6 to 12 can submit projects in four fields: Biological and Ecological Sciences; Chemical, Physical and Mathematical Sciences; Social and Behavioural Sciences and Technology.

The event will be organised by the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec), in partnership with the 51-year-old Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition in Ireland. The announcement was made as part of the Adec’s UAE Innovation Week initiatives.

“We hope this exciting and new initiative will encourage students, parents and the public to think and learn more about science, while [also] motivating students to follow career paths in science and technology,” said Dr Mugheer Al Khaili, acting director general at the Adec and chairman of the Health Authority Abu Dhabi.

Submissions are welcome from individual pupils or three-member groups, and the deadline is January 28, 2016.
