Dubai: Students from UAE-based schools affiliated to the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) have trumped their Indian counterparts with a 100 per cent result. CISCE declared the results for Grade 10 and Grade 12 on Friday.
In the UAE, nearly 300 students of grade 10 appeared for the Indian Certificate for Secondary Examination (ICSE) from four schools and 120 students of grade 12 appeared for the Indian School Certificate (ISC) examination.
Gems Modern Academy, where 207 students took the Grade 10 exams, topped the ICSE results, securing a batch average of 88.4 per cent. JSS International School with a batch average of 88 per cent stood a close second.
Gems Modern Academy also topped the Grade 12 (ISC) examinations with a batch average of 88.3 per cent, an all-time high for the school. JSS was second once again with a batch average of 84.31 per cent.
Speaking to Gulf News following the result, Nargish Khambatta, Principal of Gems Modern Academy said: “Modern Academy aspires to provide a holistic education that moulds young people of substance. Gems Modern Academy also stood out in terms of individual achievers with joint ISC toppers in Arundhati Kalyan and Pranathi Rao, both of whom scored 98.75 per cent.
Khambatta told Gulf News that Kalyan had already secured a place in the Environmental Engineering course at the prestigious Ivy League Columbia University while Rao is hopeful of securing admission in Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
In the Commerce stream, Nidhi Ganapathi Bhat stood first with 95.25 per cent and in the Humanities stream Anjali Ashok Menon topped with 95.75 per cent.
Thanking her teachers for the outcome, an ecstatic Rao said, “I don’t believe this, but I am really happy. Most excited by my Math and Computer results.”
Khambatta said that the batch that appeared for the Board exams this year had been the biggest ever.
The topper for ICSE (grade 10) is Jagrit Relli with an average of 97.8 per cent.
“The teachers have worked tirelessly to ensure that students do well and the results speak for themselves. Four students with special education needs also attempted the ICSE examinations and have done very well with percentages ranging from 62.8 per cent to 93.8 per cent,” said Khambatta.
At JSS International School, 49 students appeared for the ICSE exams and 40 students appeared for ISC, all of whom passed.
In the ICSE batches from JSS, out of 49 students, 23 secured more than 90 per cent, 22 secured above 80 per cent and 4 above 70 per cent.
“I think this is a fabulous result. We have done really well in five years to compete with some of the older schools. And we are happy with the results,” said Manivelan Arumugam, headmaster of JSS International School.
He added that JSS was the first CISCE-affiliated school to have Sociology as a subject in the UAE and the batch that appeared for the exam had secured 98 per cent.
“This was our fifth batch of ICSE and we are proud of our students’ performance and happy with improvements every year. We have the second topper in the UAE,” he said.
Mahima Suresh Bharadwaj with 97.6 per cent was the ICSE topper at JSS, while Arif Mohammad Siraj with 93.75 per cent was the school’s ISC topper.
Ambassador School Dubai, from where 16 students appeared for Grade 10 exams (ICSE), secured a school average of 86.31 per cent.
“We congratulate our students and the parents on achieving outstanding result second year in a row in the ICSE [Grade 10] examination conducted by CISCE in March 2016,” said Kamal Kalwani, CEO of Amabassador School.
Alric Joseph Biju from the science stream was the top performer from the school with 94.8 per cent. Mahek Sanghvi, also from the science stream, secured second position with 93.6 per cent, while Darsh Mistry, who is the school’s topper in the Commerce stream with 93 per cent, stood third overall.
Kalwani said: “43.75 per cent of students averaged 90 per cent and above and 37.5 per cent averaged between 80 and 89 per cent.”
He added that no student has scored below 67 per cent.
This year 42,880 students took the ISC exams held from February 8 to April 8 across India and a few schools in the GCC.
The ICSE exam held from February 29 to March 31 involved a total of 169,381 students.
For ICSE, the pass percentage of girls was 98.95, while for boys it was 98.12. For ISC, girls secured a pass percentage of 97.49 and boys 95.27.
