Sharjah: Dubai Cares, part of Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, held the first edition of its Volunteer Emirates 2018 in support of The National Charity School in Al Falaj, Sharjah.
The initiative brought together 100 UAE-based volunteers who helped deliver a variety of essential educational equipment to the non-profit private school. The initiative benefited a total of 1,100 students enrolled in the school.
The first edition, held in support of the Year of Zayed 2018, has completely refurbished the science lab and provided new desks, chairs and cupboards. Also, educational murals were drawn on the walls and the school’s exterior.
Abdullah Ahmad Al Shehi, chief operating officer at Dubai Cares, said: “It’s been immensely satisfying to see the UAE community come together once again to help us launch Volunteer Emirates in 2018. The appetite of the community for committing their time and energy to make a lasting difference will enable The National Charity School to deliver a higher quality of education to the young minds it nurtures. Starting here in Sharjah, I am confident that we will see Volunteer Emirates gain more strength throughout 2018.”
Dr Faris Al Jabour, principal of The National Charity School in Al Falaj, Sharjah, said: “We are very grateful for Dubai Cares’ generous support to our school. The work that is being carried out by the volunteers today will certainly have a positive impact on the students and teachers alike.”
Razan Khalaf, a volunteer from Palestine, said: “This experience was really amazing. I always wanted to take part in Dubai Cares’ Volunteer Emirates, and this year I got the chance to do so. The team was very helpful and everything was well explained and the activities we did were very interesting, so I’m very glad I had the opportunity to join this truly inspiring initiative.”
