Dubai: Donations to the Dubai Cares campaign soared to Dh130 million yesterday, including nearly Dh10 million made during the launch of the retail sector's participation led by Shaikh Rashid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
"Your participation is crucial and will decide the success of one of the defining initiatives undertaken by Dubai," said Shaikh Rashid, speaking to heads of the retail sector, before being presented with three cheques ranging from Dh1 million to Dh7 million from the Gold and Jewellery Group, the Textiles and Merchants Group and the Dodsal Group.
Sama Dubai has also donated land worth Dh50 million to be auctioned for the charity Dubai Cares.
Drop boxes will also be set up in malls to encourage donations.
