Dubai: Two Dubai-based musicians have organised a formal masterclass, to promote music and arts education in the emirate. Haley Kallenberg and Ziryab (Cassiano de Sa) will present "Creating Environments for New Music" — a participation performance offering perspectives and practice techniques.

"I want to make music education accessible for everyone perpetuating community and cultural communication," Kallenberg told Gulf News.

The musician has lived and worked in Dubai for two years, and moved here after taking a walk through the emirate on a stopover from Japan to Austria.

Kallenberg, 27, spontaneously composes during performances, giving audiences one-time only shows that won't ever be repeated.

Starting out

She started learning the piano at the age of three, branching out from her strict classical tutelage, into contemporary and jazz music around the age of 14.

Guitarist Ziryab has toured South America and Europe and is originally from Brazil.

The masterclass will be held at the Canadian University on Tuesday, March 29, in the Red Theatre, including spontaneous composition, experimental music and improvisation.

Doors open at 6.30pm and the class runs from 7-9.30pm. The Canadian University of Dubai is located Behind Shangri-La Hotel, Shaikh Zayed Road, Dubai, UAE. For further info about Ziryab (Cassiano de Sa) and Haley Kallenberg, log on to: http://www.belovedmusika.com/ziryab/ ; www.HaleyKallenberg.com
